As of Tuesday...
We officially own a home in the state of Washington. The fucked up thing about owning our home on Tuesday is that we can't go into it until the following Wednesday! The strange real estate laws here allow people to put a period of time in the sales contract allowing for extra packing a moving days. It is a very anti-climatic experience to say the least.
The really sucky thing is that Brian is going to be in China when we can actually get into the house. He is leaving on Wednesday and returning on November 4th, the day before we have to rip out 700 sq. ft. of floors to have wood floors put in the next day. Hope you get over your jet lag quickly, honey!
Because I'm such a consumer whore, we will be using a service called 1-800-GOT-JUNK for our pick-up and removal of the old floors we are taking out. It's true. I called them today and they are actually cheaper then just taking all of the carpet and fake wood floors to the dump ourselves when you factor in the 20 miles to the dump ( at least a couple of times) , the fee to dump, and all the beer and pizza it will take to feed my dad and our friend who is going to help (and has the truck)! We decided this was the way to go rather than paying the floor guy an extra $700 to take it out and haul it away. Oh the joys of homeownership.

During our basement remodel we got a dumpster for four days while Brian and crew ripped out the floor, ceiling and walls. It was the best $200 we spent during the whole project. You just can't put a pricetag on your time when trips to the dump are involved.
Nice photos! Demolition can be rewarding. Just keep the end goal mind.
This is just so great and how nice will it be to have brand new floors. I give you credit, consumer whore, I've gotten to the point of avoiding even one extra phone call. Would've most likely been sucked into the original contractors $700. I wonder how much I'd save in a year if I just had all the free time in the world to "shop around" or "do it myself". Oh well. Good thing I'm an American and can away with my complete consumer laziness.
