Patience is a Virtue

Especially when it comes to waiting for your normal hair stylist to be available. Today I decided that I was sick of my dark roots and wanted to have my hair one solid color that wouldn't have dark roots every four weeks (my hair grows so damn fast right now). Plus, we have curriculum night at school on Thursday and I didn't want all my parents to think I was a slob that couldn't keep up with my hair color.

This is where the story begins... As the 6th day of being a single parent, I decided that I could stand it no longer and got a babysitter for the afternoon. Knowing that I couldn't write lesson plans for 5 hours, I decided to try to get a hair appointment. Carol wasn't available...two weeks out. So I called the Regis Salon by Target and got in right away. This should have been my first clue.

When I arrived, I told the lady that I wanted my hair color to match my roots to avoid the dreaded grow out problem. As soon as we returned to the chair from rinsing, I knew I was in big trouble. My hair, when wet, looked BLACK! When dry, at best, it looks dark brown. The lady was very proud of herself and stated that my color now matches my eyebrow color. My hair has never matched my F*&@#*& eyebrow color! I'm one of those freaks of nature with light hair and dark eyebrows!

SHIT! I have black hair! I ran home and proceeded to wash my hair 6 times with some really nasty shampoo that I knew would strip at least some of the color out. I saw some color running down the drain, but not enough. I had the crazy hope that the color would be the one I had been dreaming of after 6 violent washes. My arms truly ached when I got out of the shower.

I'm really not a very picky person when it comes to my hair. I don't cry after haircuts and am one of those people that sits down and says, "Do what every you think would look good." Not this time. I haven't cried, but I'm expecting a few tears tomorrow morning as I'm getting ready to face my colleagues and a classroom full of judgemental 5th graders.

There is going to be a lot of shampoo used in this house over the next few days. I'm shooting for 6 washes a day. That way, I figure, I will have 4 weeks of washings done in 4 days and it should be getting closer to the color I was hoping for.

I can't find the camera right now, but I'll keep looking.

On another note, I have been considering finding a color to match my roots as well, but just can't seem to find the right shade of WHITE!!!

I'm sure you look beautiful no matter what your hair color is.

Great Story! "I'm one of those freaks of nature..." Maybe one of the kids in school has a camera on his/her cell phone. He/she could snap your photo and send it to you. That we could see for ourselves... prior to 4 weeks worth of washing. :)
