Sorry It's Been So Long
I have so much to tell you! I have been going through some amazing changes lately, beside the fact that I am officially below the weight I was when I got pregnant with Nic! (It will all make sense in a second)
Brian has been seeing an acupuncturist for about six months and I decided it was my turn to try alternative medicine. You see, I've had this girl issue, yes yeast, for about 10 years. I'd say I used to get one at least every other month. All the OBGYNs in the world have told me that it is just my body and I was going to have to get used to it. Well, I'm done getting used to it. It can't be right. How can my body be that out of wack? After seeing Tiffany, the acupuncturist, I now understand that my body really was that out of balance.
After one visit, I learned that sometimes the body over produces yeast to try to break down gluten. My body and gluten, we're not made for each other. In fact, I don't tolerate it at all. Tiffany suggested that I eat a gluten-free (gf) diet for a month to get it out of my system. Then, try to add it back in to see how I react. The adding back in experiment was performed this weekend, and it is confirmed. I'm gluten intolerant.
I had lunch at a friends house while Nora and her two daughters had a play date. April (yes, her name is April too) knew I was on a gf diet about a month ago, but I forgot to mention that I was still eating that way. So after arriving and hearing the menu, I decided that eating a delicious panini was the best way to test Tiffany's theory. Within two hours of eating the sandwich, I was on the pot off and on for most of the rest of the afternoon. My body reacted that quickly to the bread. I was amazed. I know, I haven't had perpetual diarrhea my whole life, but this was my body's way of saying, "Uh, no! You were treating me so well and then you go and feed me that sh#@$? What were you thinking?"
The next question is: Do I have Celiac Disease? At this point, having the $400 test performed isn't that important to me. I wouldn't do anything differently with my diet if I had the actual diagnosis. I know at this point, without a doubt, that a gf diet is the best option for me. And, getting back to the weight loss thing, loosing weight is a damn good side effect of eating this way!

Yeah alternative medicine!!! You'll have to share some of your favorite recipes because it's my understanding there are tons of things full of gluton. Is the entire family on this diet?
Could it be the hives were really Dermatitis Herpetiformis? The rest of this is copied from a CD internet site: "DH is a skin manifestation of celiac disease characterized by blistering, intensely itchy skin found on the face, elbows, knees and buttocks. DH patients can have gastrointestinal damage without perceptible symptoms"
We're all very relieved that you & the accupunturist have figured out that the gluten free diet works for you! Way to go!
Tracy has been gf for the most part since November and it's been going really well for her. She could probably give you lots of tips.
