'Thru'

Is this word only used when saying August thru December?

Help you English geniuses out there!

School Has Ended

I'm sitting at home, waiting for my chili to warm up, on a Tuesday morning for no other reason but that I can. Students were dismissed yesterday at 12:00 PM and the teachers were running from the building soon after. This year I'm feeling a bit different about the ending of the school year. I've had some very interesting experiences during the '06-'07 school year:

I spent about 50% of my time in September thru November with one student who required extensive amounts of restraining. He was eventually hospitalized and then moved to a school that has a classroom specifically for children with behavior disorders.

In January I started acting as the principal when she was out of the building. I have become quite skilled at suspending students :-)

In February, we got a new student and within four weeks, he was transferred to the classroom for students with behavior disorders (BD).

In March I got pregnant and had to tell my principal that I couldn't help her restrain students anymore. I also had 7 IEPs due this month.

In April I started working with a student that will be in the BD classroom in the fall.

In June I was informed that the mother of my student had filed a 'citizen's complaint' with the state. Can you say, "Hello lawsuit?"

In June, I also made the decision to start teaching 5th grade in the fall. No more special education for this teacher! I obviously won't be around for much of the school year, but I'm really looking forward to getting them started on the right foot in September before the baby comes.

Anyone notice a pattern here?

All in all, this has been the most interesting school year of my career. Hopefully I won't have one like it in a very long time!

The baby moves!

I've been starting to feel the baby move during the past week. This morning, Brian rolled over, put his hand on my belly, and said "Good morning Baby." I could feel the baby move within seconds. Pretty cool way to wake up!

15 weeks

Today officially marks the beginning of my 15th week of pregnancy. The two most frustrating things so far have been that I never know what clothes in my closet are going to fit on a given day, and I have to wear a bra 24/7. It's amazing how much you forget in two and a half years.

I'm enjoying all the "You are such a cute pregnant woman," comments from people at work. I don't have the heart to tell them that they didn't see me last time and have no idea what a sight they're in for. I'm trying to enjoy this stage because I know the tree-trunk-legs and triple chin are on their way.

I almost laughed out loud a couple of weeks ago when my doctor told me that my weight-gain goal for the pregnancy should be 25 pounds! Are you kidding me? I'm going to work very hard at not gaining 50 pounds by week 34 this time, but I'm not making any promises. My goal is to only eat ice cream one time per week during the summer. As for potato chips, I can't quantify the number that will go into my mouth each week.

It seems that just a few weeks ago I could hardly eat during the day. Now I can eat all day long. I feel as if I'm torturing myself my not having something to munch on constantly. My brain obviously understands that this isn't the case, but my stomach is telling me something much different. I almost got the shakes two days ago when I had a craving for Doritos. I even sent out an email to a few people at work asking if they had a stash. Lucky for me, one of the kindergarten teachers had a bag stashed behind her desk. Disaster avoided.
